Volunteeer and make a difference
|
While learning Spanish you are welcome to participate in our Volunteer Programs.
We are working with some projects in Cusco where we need you.
Working as a volunteer is not only a great opportunity to practice and improve your Spanish it is also a way of helping our country and especially our native children.
Here you have a few alternatives for volunteer working: |
| |
Teaching english to children |

|
If you have abilities for teaching and you like children this is your perfect choice.
We work with some of the poorest primary schools around Cusco. In these schools children usually dont`t get high level education.
We think that teaching them English is one of the ways to improve their quality of life. |
Tourism in Cusco is the main source of the economy so English is very important here.
Learning the language from advanced English speakers ia a great opportunity for the children of Cusco by leading them to better jobs, higher education in other countries and so on. |
This program is dedicated to people who are involved in archeology, architecture, anthropology, history or any related studies. We have an agreement with the National Peruvian Institute of Culture, which is an institution in charge of the conservation of our heritage.
By taking part in this project you will have the great opportunity of
|
|
learning about the Inkan civilization. You will be working in Inkan constructions, restorations, excavations, investigations and much more.

Children and adolescent care |

|
We have an agreement with the San Juan de Dios Clinic, which is a nonprofit institution that gives homes to children and adolescents with mental and physical problems and disabilities.
The volunteers who would like to work here can participate in the following activities:
Helping feed the children, taking care of their hygiene, helping
|
them with their daily activities such as exercises, massage and playing with them.
The volunteers who have medicine studies or any related studies, are going to be qualified to work in more specific tasks in coordination with your supervisor or director. |
| |
Adolescent rehabilitation and return to society |
Peru is a developing country with many social problems and needs. One of the largest problems is lack of education and ignorance. It is the reason why some young people choose to steal on the streets, take drugs and assault others.
There is a governmental institution in Cusco called Centro de Reabilitacion Marcavalle.
|
|
This is where adolescents come to recover and learn skills to change their habits so they can return to society.
As a volunteer of Marcavalle Rehabilitation Center you can teach members many skills depending on your abilities: we have computer, arts, theater, English, dancing, cooking, and music programs for you to participate as a volunteer. |

Teaching english to blind people |

|
In Cusco we have a group of approximately thirty people who are blind and they work on Cusco streets selling post cards, phone cards and other small articles. We them to have better job opportunities in our society.
Now we are working on a project where blind members learn massage for tourists so it is essential for them to have basic English. If you decide to |
volunteer in this program you will be teaching or assisting three hours a day in the afternoon.
|
| |
Volunteering at the Cusco zoo |
The Cusco zoo gives home to more than 100 animal species of the region, such as condors, pumas, vicunas, llamas, alpacas, monkeys, tigers, bears, birds and so on.
Most of these animals have been captured illegally to be used for commercial purposes. They need to be in captivity to survive. |
|
As a volunteer you will feed the animals, clean the cages and make some improvements in their habitacions. Volunteers who have veterinary skills will have some medical care responsibilites.
